OVERCOME YOUR CHALLENGE!
MAKING YOUR
DISABILITY YOUR ABILITY
Of
my favourite movies is the film title, Kun Fu Jungle. The movie features a
character name Fung Yu-sua who was born deformed in the legs. He grew up to
become a Kun Fu maniac and was out to hunt and kill all the Kun Fu champions in
town. In his quest to conquer all his counterparts (champions of his days), he
met one Tam King-yui, a man who kicked his way to the top in Asia and was
regarded as the best. He challenged him in a duel. In the middle of the fight,
Tam King-yui said to him, ‘You’re born with handicap in your legs; I’m
really impressed you trained yourself to overcome it.’ In the end, he
killed the Asian champion using his (handicapped) leg. Fung Yu-sua developed
his handicap leg into a useful working tool.
What a great achievement!
Knowing
your challenge is one thing, overcoming it is something else. Do you have a
challenge? Are you aware of it? What do you do about it? From all indications,
it is explicitly clear that no human has ever existed without a challenge. It
can be mental, financial, academical, marital, social and otherwise.
The
word means anything that encumbers; what intends to deter you from something; a
disability; an incompetency etc. Many tend to hide their challenges, others are
not even aware while some pretend to be supper humans, still, others go heads
bow down, not giving to their incapability.
You
remember the movie Kun Fu Panda? Shared with me by a corps member friend was a
part where Panda was defeated in a challenge and he planned to retreat. The
villagers thought Panda’s dad, the best cook in the village was using a secret
ingredient for his soup and noodles. One day, he told Panda the secret; that it
is nothing; there was no secret ingredient or whatsoever that made his soup
special. For you to be special, you have to see yourself as being special. The
first step to success is to believe you are successful.
We
know of Oscar! I was privileged to be in his audience at the Nigerian Christian
Institute, when he narrated the story of his life, how he became amputated, yet
he today is a doctor, traveller, lecturer, musician and so on.
To
the Christian is the text of Phil. 4:13. There is an inward strength in your
outward weakness. I am a sickler, a dummy, an average student, a peasant, etc.
these are not good reasons to remain where you are. They can be sympathized by
anyone who wishes you well but they can never be accepted by them.
Moses
was a dumber, Joseph was a slave. Peter was a fisherman, David was a shepherd boy.
Jesus was a Nazarene, all these had genuine excuses to give but they strove
above their weaknesses and were made heroes. You can be whatever you want. I
heard this is accepted in Uforia, but it can be attained anywhere else in the
world.
To
the Christian in the text phillippians 4:3 There is inward strength in your
outward weakness. Weather you are a sickle cell patient, asthmatic, above 40,a
weak student from a poor family background, and so on, they are never good
enough reason for you to remain where you are. People can sympathise with you
over your weakness but anyone who truly wishes you well will urge you to stop
given excuses
Moses
was a stutterer. Joseph was a slave and prisoner. Peter was a fisher man. David
was a mere shepherd boy. Jesus was from Nazareth. Deborah was a woman. Jesu was
born out of a wedlock. Many great heroes succeeded at the old age. All these
had genuius excuses to give but they strove above their weakness and became
heroes
‘’you
can be whatever you want’’. I heard that this statement is accepted in `zooforia’
but it can also be attained anywhere else in the world. If you fail to overcome
your challenge then you will end like a chicken. A story is told of a day when
there was an earthquake which caused the egg of an eagle to roll into a chicken
farm. The chicken cared for the egg like it own and then it hatched and a
beautiful eaglet was born. Being raised
by a chicken, the eagle believed that that it was indeed a chicken. Whenever it
looked up and saw mighty eagles soaring high up in the sky, but other chicken,
preempting its thoughts would ridicule the eagle, ‘’you cannot sour likes those
birds. You are a chicken and chickens do not soar’’.
The
eagle kept staring at its real family up above, dreaming that he could be with
them. Each time its let it dream know to the chickens’. its be told that the
dream was impossible. And it believed them. It soon stopped dreaming and lived
like a chicken till it ended in the pot of the farmer.
Abraham
Lincoln once said,’’my great concern is not whether you have failed, but
whether you are not contented with your failure.’’ Do not allow any weakness
stop you from reaching your full potential.do not allow people, the
environment, your age your education level, and so on to hinder you from
reaching the heights you want to attain. Rather decide them to overcome them
and sour.
